BofA's $300 billion custom AI chip market projection by 2030 is not a rounding error on a slide deck. It's a structural call on how hyperscalers — Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Meta — plan to spend their AI infrastructure capital over the next four years. The core of the thesis is custom silicon: purpose-built ASICs that deliver better performance-per-watt for specific AI workloads than general-purpose GPUs. Marvell is positioned directly in that supply chain, designing and enabling custom chips for some of the largest cloud operators on the planet.
The economics of custom silicon are compelling enough that even Arya's $300 billion figure may prove conservative. Google's TPU program, Amazon's Trainium and Inferentia chips, and Meta's MTIA project all represent hyperscaler decisions to own more of their AI compute stack rather than pay NVIDIA's margin indefinitely. Marvell doesn't build these chips end-to-end — it provides the SerDes IP, PCIe interconnects, and networking silicon that make these custom designs function at scale inside a data center.
