Ethereum ETFs Pull In $104M as Bitcoin Funds Bleed

Ethereum ETFs logged $103.9M in weekly inflows — their third straight positive week — while spot Bitcoin ETFs shed $49.75M on July 28 alone, deepening a four-day slide.

July 29, 2026

Key Points

  • Ethereum spot ETFs pulled in $103.9 million for the week ended July 24 — their third consecutive week of net inflows — while spot Bitcoin ETFs bled $49.75 million on July 28 alone, a fourth straight day of outflows.
  • BlackRock's ETHA absorbed 37,424 ETH of the week's total 37,959 ETH net purchase, cementing it as the dominant vehicle in the Ethereum ETF category by an overwhelming margin.
  • The critical signal for traders is whether Bitcoin ETF cumulative outflows, currently tracking near $4.84 billion for 2026, stabilize or resume accelerating — the next seven days of daily flow data will determine which narrative controls the crypto ETF trade heading into August.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs shed another $49.75 million on July 28, the fourth consecutive day of net outflows, while Ethereum ETFs posted $103.9 million in weekly inflows through July 24 — their third straight winning week. The divergence between the two largest crypto ETF categories is now one of the cleanest rotation signals in the entire ETF market, and it is accelerating.

Bitcoin's Hole Is Deeper Than the Headline

The $49.75 million single-day outflow on July 28 is not the number that should concern Bitcoin ETF holders — it is the cumulative picture underneath it. Spot Bitcoin ETFs have bled approximately $4.84 billion in net outflows for 2026, and while that deficit had narrowed from a peak of roughly $5.4 billion earlier in July, the four-day outflow streak has arrested that partial recovery. To put the reversal in context: Bitcoin ETFs have clawed back only 3.3% of the $8.2 billion that exited the category through mid-July. That is not a recovery — it is statistical noise against a wall of institutional selling.
BlackRock's IBIT drove the majority of the July 28 outflow, a fact that carries more weight than if it had come from a smaller vehicle. IBIT is the largest and most liquid spot Bitcoin ETF in the U.S. market; when IBIT bleeds, it reflects decisions made by the institutional and high-net-worth clients that BlackRock routes through the product, not retail panic. Fidelity's FBTC and ARK 21Shares' ARKB provided partial offsets — adding 109 BTC and 77 BTC respectively — but those figures are rounding errors against the scale of IBIT's outflows. The structure of who is selling versus who is buying matters: the sellers are in the largest, most institutionally held vehicle; the buyers are in second and third-tier products absorbing marginal capital.

Ethereum's Bid — and Its Concentration Risk

The Ethereum ETF inflow story is real, but traders should not read it as clean without examining the concentration underneath. Of the 37,959 ETH net purchased by Ethereum ETFs for the week, BlackRock's ETHA alone accounted for 37,424 ETH. That is 98.6% of the category's entire weekly haul flowing into a single product. Grayscale's ETH vehicles added 5,515 ETH, but Fidelity's FETH offset that with a 4,980 ETH net redemption — meaning outside of ETHA, the rest of the Ethereum ETF market was essentially flat to negative for the week.
The broader crypto ETF landscape on Tuesday showed healthcare and financials stealing momentum from risk assets broadly, which makes ETHA's sustained bid all the more notable. Ethereum's ETF category is effectively a one-fund story right now, and that creates both opportunity and risk. The opportunity: ETHA has pricing power and liquidity that the smaller Ethereum ETFs cannot match, making it the default vehicle for any institutional allocator who decides to add ETH exposure. The risk: if ETHA sees even a modest redemption week, the headline numbers will collapse — there is no depth of competing products to absorb the flow and keep the category in positive territory. The $103.9 million weekly inflow is real money, but it lives and dies with one fund manager's daily flows.

New Entrants and What August Looks Like

The competitive landscape just shifted with Morgan Stanley's simultaneous launch of the Ethereum Trust (MSSE) and Solana Trust (MSOL) on NYSE Arca, both carrying a 0.14% expense ratio — the lowest in the market for crypto ETPs. The fee war in crypto ETFs, which has already compressed margins across Bitcoin products, is now hitting Ethereum and extending into Solana for the first time at the institutional-wrapper level. Morgan Stanley's existing Bitcoin Trust (MSBT) had accumulated more than $381 million in AUM through July 16, suggesting the firm has genuine distribution capacity to push assets into MSSE and MSOL rapidly. If MSSE attracts even a fraction of what ETHA holds, it will fragment the Ethereum ETF category in a way that could obscure the weekly flow signals traders currently rely on.
The XRP ETF market has reached $1 billion in combined AUM across seven U.S.-listed products as of July 28, with 977.9 million XRP tokens locked. That milestone matters less as a standalone number and more as evidence that the regulatory clearance for altcoin ETFs is producing real investor demand — not just speculative launches chasing SEC approvals. The survival math for these newer products remains brutal: of 2026's 1,084 ETF launches through mid-July, the historical closure rate for sub-$50 million products exceeds 85% since 2021. XRP ETFs crossing $1 billion collectively suggests the category has cleared the existential threshold, but individual products in the seven-fund field will face consolidation pressure.
For traders positioning in crypto ETFs heading into August, the specific level to watch in Bitcoin ETFs is whether the cumulative 2026 outflow figure resumes its march toward $5.4 billion or continues the partial recovery that was underway before July 28's selling. Four consecutive outflow days following a partial reversal is the pattern of a failed recovery, not a consolidation. If Bitcoin ETF daily flows do not turn positive within the next five trading sessions, the probability of retesting — and potentially breaking — the mid-July outflow peak rises materially. On the Ethereum side, the launch of MSSE will generate its first meaningful flow data within two weeks of trading; how quickly it pulls assets away from ETHA will define whether the category's third-consecutive-week inflow streak extends into a genuine trend or stalls as capital fragments across more products competing for the same institutional allocation dollars.
