Bitcoin Holds $65K: ETF Inflows Hit Best Week Since April

Bitcoin consolidates at $64,896 as spot ETF inflows top $754M — best week since April. Key levels, whale data, and the CLARITY Act delay explained.

August 10, 2026

Key Points

  • U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in $754.69 million this week — the strongest weekly inflow since April — with BlackRock's IBIT capturing the bulk.
  • Whale wallets holding 10–10,000 BTC accumulated more than 20,000 BTC (≈$1.2 billion) since July 29, while Friday's weak jobs report cooled Fed rate-hike bets and gave risk assets a tailwind.
  • BTC is trapped in a $63,500–$65,500 squeeze; a clean weekly close above $65,500 opens the path to $67,500–$70,000, while a break below $63,500 puts the August 1 capitulation low at $62,235 back in play.

Bitcoin is printing $64,896 this morning — down a rounding-error 0.11% on the 24-hour — but the weekly tape is where the real story lives: BTC closed above $65,000 for the first time since late July, posting a 3.7% weekly gain off the August 1 capitulation low of $62,235, as institutional money flooded back into spot ETF products at the fastest pace in four months.

The Money Flow That Changes the Calculus

The headline number from last week is $754.69 million in net inflows to U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs — the strongest weekly haul since April, with more than $500 million of that arriving in August alone. On August 7 alone, the products drew approximately $102 million in a single session. According to Yahoo Finance data, BTC has now recovered roughly 3% from its August 1 flush, and ETF flows suggest the dip was absorbed by institutional buyers rather than abandoned by them. BlackRock's IBIT claimed the dominant share of inflows. Grayscale's GBTC, Morgan Stanley's MSBT, Valkyrie's BRRR, and WisdomTree's BTCW posted zero flows on August 7 — capital is concentrating in the market-structure winners, not spreading across the field.
Ethereum ETFs continued their own streak, pulling in $49.60 million on August 7, marking four consecutive days of positive flows and pushing cumulative net inflows to $11.46 billion. That said, Solana and XRP ETF products were flat on the day — the newer entrants have not yet built the daily participation depth needed to generate consistent movement, and that gap in demand tells traders something about where institutional conviction is actually sitting right now.
The on-chain picture reinforces the ETF story. Wallets holding between 10 and 10,000 BTC added more than 20,000 BTC — worth approximately $1.2 billion at current prices — since July 29, spanning the exact window of the dip and recovery. A single fresh wallet tagged 167YVr received 1,346 BTC worth $87.28 million from Galaxy Digital, per Lookonchain data, a meaningful directional signal from a sophisticated market participant. CryptoQuant's Smart Money report dated August 5 confirmed the pattern is not isolated: the largest holders of Bitcoin, Ether, and XRP were all adding exposure through the drawdown, not reducing it. Declining exchange balances, long-term holder accumulation, and a rising stablecoin float of $287 billion all point toward sidelined capital that is actively repositioning — not sitting idle.

What the Macro Tape Is Telling Crypto

The catalyst for last week's recovery was not crypto-native. Friday's July jobs report came in materially weaker than expected, and the immediate market read was that additional Federal Reserve rate hikes are off the table for now. The effective Fed funds rate sits at 3.63%, SOFR at 3.65%, and the 10-year Treasury yield at 4.69% against a 2-year at 4.25% — a yield curve that has been repricing the rate path in real time. CPI is still running at 3.5% year-over-year with core at 2.6%, so the Fed is not in a position to cut aggressively, but a weaker labor market reading takes the next-hike scenario off the table and that is enough to send risk assets — Bitcoin included — back toward the top of their ranges.
The global cryptocurrency market cap sits at $2.28 trillion today, up 0.2% over the past 24 hours on $32.8 billion in trading volume. Bitcoin dominance holds at 57.2%, its strongest sustained reading in months, which historically signals that the market is in a risk-rotation phase where capital concentrates in BTC before spreading to altcoins. Ethereum holds 10.1% market share but remains structurally pressured — ETH's realized price sits at $2,305, more than $385 above where it is trading today at $1,917, meaning the average ETH holder is still underwater. The Fear and Greed Index is at 30 — Fear — up from 26 a month ago, which is a modest but directionally meaningful improvement in sentiment.
The stablecoin market is the overlooked leading indicator here. A $287 billion stablecoin float with $28.7 billion in daily trading volume is not a market in retreat — it is a market that has moved to cash and is waiting for a trigger to redeploy. That dynamic, combined with the ETF flow data and whale accumulation, gives the current setup an asymmetric character that favors the upside if the price can hold above $65,000 on a closing basis.

What Traders Watch Next

The technical picture is unambiguous in its simplicity. BTC is locked in a $63,500–$65,500 squeeze, trading at $64,896 and sitting right at the top of that range. The local high tagged last week was $65,500. The August ceiling cited by prediction markets is $67,500, with the $68,000–$70,000 zone the next major target beyond that. On the downside, $63,500 is the squeeze floor, and below that the August 1 capitulation low at $62,235 is the number that cannot break without reopening the $60,000 conversation. There is no ambiguity about which side of this range matters more: a weekly close above $65,500 changes the conversation entirely.
The forward calendar has two hard dates that every crypto trader needs to own. The Senate returns September 14 with the Cryptocurrency CLARITY Act expected to be an early order of business — the bill, which would define whether tokens are securities or commodities and divide SEC/CFTC oversight, has stalled in the Senate and prediction market Kalshi has priced its passage in 2026 at just 20%. The Fed's September policy meeting follows immediately on September 15–16, when updated rate projections will reflect Friday's jobs data. That 48-hour window — September 14 to 16 — is the next genuine macro and regulatory inflection point for this market. Between now and then, the $65,000 level is the only number that matters: BTC holds it and the path to $68,000 opens; BTC loses it and the tape goes back to work retesting $62,235.
