Ethereum ETFs Bleed $155M in 4 Days — Is Demand Fading?

US spot Ether ETFs logged four straight sessions of outflows totaling $155M even as ETH holds above $2,700. BlackRock's ETHA and Fidelity's FETH led redemptions.

October 5, 2026

Key Points

  • US spot Ether ETFs posted four consecutive sessions of net outflows totaling $155.12 million from Sept. 29 through Oct. 2, with BlackRock's ETHA and Fidelity's FETH driving the bulk of the most recent session's redemptions.
  • ETH's price held at $2,716.23 this morning — up 0.6% on the day — demonstrating a notable divergence between spot price resilience and sustained institutional selling through the ETF wrapper.
  • Traders should watch whether cumulative Ethereum ETF inflows, currently at $13.8 billion against $17.5 billion in net assets, begin to erode as outflow streaks lengthen or accelerate.

Four straight sessions of selling and $155 million out the door — yet Ethereum is trading at $2,716.23 this morning, up 0.6% in 24 hours. The divergence between spot price resilience and ETF-wrapper redemptions is the defining tension in the crypto ETF market right now, and it raises a question every trader in digital assets needs to answer: is the selling a tactical pause inside a structural bull market, or the early signal of fading institutional conviction in the Ethereum thesis?

The Four-Day Bleed, Session by Session

The outflow streak in US spot Ether ETFs is sharp and accelerating in the wrong direction before showing any sign of stabilization. Per SoSoValue data, the drain began Sept. 29 with a relatively modest $2.81 million net redemption. The following session — Sept. 30 — saw the pace jump dramatically to $59.58 million, a twenty-fold escalation in a single trading day. October 1 followed with $55.37 million in additional outflows, and Oct. 2 closed the four-session run with $37.36 million more leaving the complex. The cumulative total across the four sessions: $155.12 million in net redemptions.
What makes this streak notable is not the absolute dollar size — $155 million against $17.5 billion in net assets represents less than 1% of the fund complex — but the concentration of that selling in the two flagship funds. BlackRock's ETHA and Fidelity's FETH together accounted for roughly $20 million and $17 million respectively in the most recently reported session's outflows. These are not fringe products losing assets because of poor performance or obscurity. ETHA and FETH are the institutional-grade, brand-name entries in the spot Ether ETF category, the funds that sophisticated allocators default to when they want ETH exposure with maximum liquidity and counterparty quality. Redemptions at this tier of the market reflect deliberate portfolio decisions, not retail panic or operational noise.
The broader Ether ETF complex still sits on $13.8 billion in cumulative net inflows and $17.5 billion in total net assets, which means the price appreciation embedded in those holdings has been substantial. A portion of the current outflows almost certainly represents gains harvesting — allocators who bought into the ETH ETF structure earlier in 2026 and are now trimming into the Q3 close. Quarter-end and fiscal year-end portfolio rebalancing creates exactly this kind of episodic redemption pressure that is mechanically driven rather than fundamentally bearish.

The Bigger Flow War: ETH vs. BTC vs. XRP

Despite the four-day bleed, the year-to-date scorecard in the crypto ETF flow competition produces a counterintuitive result: Ethereum is winning. US spot Ethereum ETFs have attracted approximately $1.5 billion in net inflows year-to-date in 2026, versus roughly $985 million for Bitcoin ETFs over the same period. That outcome — ETH beating BTC on flows — would have been considered an improbable forecast at the start of the year given Bitcoin's first-mover dominance in the spot ETF structure and its $109 billion in ETF AUM versus ETH's $18 billion.
Bitcoin's own flow picture on Oct. 1, the most recent fully reported session per Bitbo, was also negative. ARKB shed $7.9 million, BITB lost $7.0 million, and GBTC — the legacy Grayscale product that has been a persistent outflow vehicle since its conversion — added another $0.4 million in net redemptions. MSBT managed a $7.2 million inflow, leaving the total Bitcoin ETF complex at a net $8.3 million outflow for the session. Neither the Bitcoin nor the Ethereum ETF complex is currently a one-way inflow machine, which stands in contrast to the euphoric narrative that surrounded the spot ETF launches.
The real standout in crypto ETF flows right now is neither BTC nor ETH — it is XRP. Spot XRP ETFs logged their 12th consecutive week of inflows last week, pulling in approximately $5 million for the period and pushing cumulative net inflows to $1.8 billion against net assets averaging $1.7 billion. Twelve straight weeks of positive flows without a single interruption is a streak that reflects durable and consistent institutional accumulation rather than momentum chasing. The XRP complex is smaller than its Bitcoin and Ethereum counterparts, but its flow consistency is currently unmatched across the spot crypto ETF landscape.

What Traders Should Watch Through October

The immediate catalyst for the next directional read on Ethereum ETF demand is straightforward: watch whether the four-session outflow streak extends into a fifth and sixth session or reverses sharply. A streak of this length — four days — is well within the range of normal quarterly-close noise. If net redemptions persist through the second week of October without a recovery, that shifts the interpretation from tactical trimming to a genuine re-evaluation of the Ethereum allocation thesis at the institutional level.
Today's broader market environment — SPY at $769.70 and up 0.75%, with semiconductors leading and risk appetite clearly positive — provides a constructive backdrop that should, in theory, support crypto assets. ETH holding $2,700 against $155 million in ETF outflows is evidence that spot market demand outside the ETF wrapper is absorbing the selling pressure efficiently. The Glamsterdam testnet for Ethereum, which is approaching its launch window, represents the next near-term protocol catalyst that could shift sentiment. Testnet execution risk is real but historically has been a positive flow catalyst once completed successfully.
The critical level to monitor for the ETF flow picture is the $13.8 billion cumulative inflow figure. If four-session or multi-week outflow streaks begin to erode that number toward $13.0 billion, it signals that the early institutional adopters who bought into the ETF structure at launch are net sellers at current prices — a structurally bearish development. Conversely, a sharp reversal in ETHA and FETH flows in the October 6–10 reporting window would confirm the quarter-end harvesting thesis and reset the narrative. Mark that five-session window as the decisive test.
